Below are some answers to frequently asked questions. If you have further questions, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Cerjak. or Ms. Rudisel Emails: HYPERLINK "mailto:janet.cerjak@dvusd.org" janet.cerjak@dvusd.org HYPERLINK "mailto:christy.rudisel@dvusd.org" christy.rudisel@dvusd.org Our performance will be April 5th and 6th, 2019. We expect you to show good character and keep up with your grades. THAT IS MOST IMPORTANT! We do reserve the right to discontinue your time with the Drama Club if you cannot abide by the expectations below. Please initial _______________ Do we have to come to every practice? You are expected to come to EVERY practice. There may be days when we need only those in a certain act or scene. We will put together a schedule for each month. If you are unable to attend each practice, you may want to reconsider joining. If you miss too many practices your part could be given to a stand in. Every practice depends on each actor. If you arent there, it is hard to stage the scene. If you are planning to join baseball or softball, you will not be able to join drama. There are too many conflicting dates that are crucial to both activities. We have a 3 strike policy for unexcused absences. **GRADES AND GRIT CARDS** We will follow a new procedure beginning this year. We will do grade and GRIT card checks. Being a part of this club is a privilege and a representation of us. We expect you to show good character at all times, be respectful to staff and each other and keep your grades up. If you do not follow these guidelines, we have the right to give your part to a stand in actor. If you are part of our tech crew, your responsibilities may be given to someone else. Please initial ________________ What will we do during rehearsal/ practice? You will work on vocals and choreography. You will run lines and scenes. Some of the time you will improve acting skills with mini workshops. Eventually you will run through the show. Beginning in November, practice will be from 3:45-6:00pm (please make note of this and have your parents ready to pick you up at 6:00pm~(Late parents CAN receive a charge) every Wednesday and Friday. There are days we may run a little bit over. Please have your parents wait in the parking lot. What does Show Week look like? Show week is both the most fun and most work a child in the Drama program can have. It begins after school as students gather in the MPR to have a snack and start homework. We have rehearsal about 4 and continue until about 6. We then break for supper- which our parents head (usually we get pizza, pasta, subs, and chicken strips). Students then finish homework. Practice continues until about 10:00 pm. Please understand that we usually end then but we have run over in the past. We do our best to stay on schedule. Please consider this carefully. If you feel your child is not ready for this, consider waiting a year. Students must be there- especially on show week- in order for everyone to perform. We depend on each other to create an awesome program! DATES: April 5th and 6th with DRESS REHEARSAL being April 3rd What can parents do to help? We will have a parent meeting (December 5th @ 5:30pm)) to discuss any questions that you may have. At that time, if you have any special talents or skills, you may want to sign up to help. Some of the areas we will need volunteers for are: getting props together, costumes, helping with the teacher show (dessert, programs and tickets), organizing the teacher show (desserts), hair and make-up (shows), concessions, picking up dinners for show week, and simply donating snacks and water for show week (it gets hot back stage) or donating anything to the drama program. Can parents go back stage during a show? NO. (Unless you are helping with hair, make-up and costumes) If you want to wish your child luck, please do it before the show when you drop them off. Parents and siblings are not allowed back stage (not where the students sit or in the wings behind the curtain) or in the dressing room at any time. There are many things happening before a show and we do not need any added things happening. If you are helping with make up or hair, please make arrangements for your younger children. What is Tech Crew? The tech crew is the heart of any production. These are the people actors rely on to get props in the right spots, move scenes, handle the curtain, manage backstage, run the sound, create scenery and a million other things. They are so important that a production could not happen without them. There are a limited number of spots open for crew. Your correctly completed forms need to be turned in promptly. Can I have my cell phone? During rehearsals and shows there will be a cell phone collection box that will be kept with the directors. NO STUDENT MAY HAVE A CELL PHONE WHILE PRACTICING OR PERFORMING. Those caught will be warned and then asked to leave (resulting in missing a practice/show). We understand that, especially during show week, the students are with us for many hours. If you have an emergency you can call the office. Students are allowed to use their cell phone during breaks so if you leave a message, they will see it then. During show week, we will allow frequent checks of phones for messages. Who can come to rehearsal? Just those in the show can be at rehearsals. No siblings, no friends, no parents unless you are a volunteer. Auditions Auditions will be the week of November 5th. Times will be posted in Ms. Rudisels window October 31st. Because we dont know how many are trying out, we cant give you the schedule yet. We need you to fill out the attached form and turn it in by October 30th. Please keep the question pages for future reference. You need to come to auditions on the day you are scheduled. The cast list will be posted on November 9th Please do not bring friends with you- they will be asked to leave or sit outside. Parents are not to be in the room during tryouts. We will be giving you an AUDITION PACKET once you turn in your signed permission slip. In the packet will be the list of songs to choose from and the monologues to choose from. Please look them over to decide which part you will portray. Either Ms. Rudisel, Mrs. Cerjak or another staff member will be reading the other parts. During the monologue, we are looking for more than memorization. We are looking for action and emotion.(pretend you are already on stage). We will be looking at how you portray the character and how you interact with us. When you come in for auditions, please wait outside. We will call you into Ms. Rudisels room. You can start with the song or the monologue. We know that some of you will be nervous so just relax and begin when you are ready. The more time you spend practicing, the more relaxed you will be. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name___________________________ Grade __________________________ _________I would like to showcase my talents with a small part only. _________I will do my best at any part given. ________ I am interested in being a part of the choreography team. Please list ALL conflicts that you will have (other than emergency situations) during the months of practice. Be specific with times and dates if possible. Practice will be Wednesdays and Fridays beginning November 14th. Show week will be April 1st through the 6th with shows being April 5th and 6th, 2019. MondaysTuesdaysWednesdaysThursdaysFridays _______ YES! I will be trying out for basketball or am on spirit line (This could determine a part given in the play) Please circle which sport you will be trying out for. Please know in advance the commitment to this show. If you feel you cannot give 100% to the drama club, please reconsider. We really do our best to work with the coaches. If you DO NOT check this box and then make a team, your part MAY be given to another actor. COST for drama program: (NON-REFUNDABLE) $100 for actors $75 for Tech Crew Please make checks payable to Sierra Verde School. All payments for actors need to be received after auditions are complete. All payments for tech crew need to be received after the tech crew list is put in Rudisels window (after forms are due). Permission slips must be returned for you to audition for the show. What does the money go towards? Many things. Purchasing the rights to the performance and the script is the biggest cost for the program. Most of the money goes towards that. Other money will go towards props, set design and supplies and things of that nature. Your child will be asked for possible donations for snacks, dinners, etc when we are nearing the show date. Depending on our costume situation, you may be asked to get some items you may need for a given scene. We will be ordering T-shirts for our club. ALL tech crew will be required to order a shirt(This is included in the cost to join for TECH CREW only). The t-shirts are optional for actors. They typically run about $10 per shirt. We will have this information at the parent meeting on December 5th. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have read and understand this full handout. I will honor all of the information in this packet. My child has permission to try out and be involved in the musical.
